A Linslade dental practice is inviting patients to take advantage of free oral cancer screening this month.

Cherry Trees Dental, which is located on Soulbury Road, is offering free oral cancer checks throughout the month of November as part of the British Dental Health Foundation’s Mouth Cancer Awareness Month campaign.

The screening checks, which take just a few minutes, will be carried out by dental therapist, Sarah Breen. Sarah said that the practice is backing the national mouth cancer campaign to raise awareness of the disease, which kills one person in the UK every five hours.

Sarah said that the dental team is particular eager to encourage people who have not been to the dentist for a long time to come for a screening check; she said that everyone is aware that many people are worried about going to the dentist but promised that the check would quick and painless and assured patients that there would be no lectures.

The primary aim of the BDHF’s campaign is to educate people about the causes and symptoms of mouth cancer in the hope that this will reduce the number of people affected by the disease in the future. Experts have predicted that 60,000 people will be diagnosed with the disease in the next decade and half are expected to die; early detection could help to save thousands of lives.

Patients who are interested in making an appointment are advised to telephone or email the practice.
