A dental nurse from Lancing is preparing to scale the dizzy heights in Peru to raise money for charity.

Edwina Weekes, from Newlands Dental Surgery, will be joined on the four day Inca Trail trek by her friend, Karen Goldstraw. The pair is raising money for the British Heart Foundation.

Mrs Goldstraw has pledged to have a heart tattoo if they reach their fundraising target of £3,000 and individually, they have already raised £2,000 each, which includes costs for their flights.

The pair will be hiking at altitudes of 4,200 metres and have been training at their local gym, as well as jogging; however, they have never done anything like this before and are experiencing a mixture of feelings, including anxiety and excitement.

Mrs Goldstraw said that she wanted to support the British Heart Foundation because a work colleague has recently suffered a serious stroke at the age of just 31 years old. She added that her friend is doing well, but the situation makes you think about your own life, as well as the amazing work done by charitable organisations like the British Heart Foundation.

After following the Inca Trail for four days, the duo will finish their challenge at the iconic Machu Picchu site. They are doing the challenge as part of a group and are welcoming donations from friends, family, colleagues and patients.
