An NHS dental practice in Lancashire is taking on a new dentist.

Principal dentist at Station Dental Practice, Leyland, Assim Ghaffoor, has confirmed that a new dentist will join the practice in August. Sarah Casey, a newly qualified dentist from the University of Manchester, will join the team at the beginning of next month, taking the number of dentists working at the surgery to five.

The addition of a new dentist will increase the number of places available at the practice by between 750 and 1000. Assim Ghaffoor said that the addition of a new dentist will increase the practice capacity and improve access to dental services in the area; the practice is ready to take on more NHS patients and anyone who is looking for a dentist is invited to call the surgery or pop in.

Donna Roberts, head of community and care contracts at NHS Central Lancashire, said that waiting lists in the area had been cut thanks to the opening of a number of new surgeries. NHS dental places are currently available in Leyland, Chorley and parts of West Lancashire and patients are encouraged to contact the surgeries directly or visit the dental access database, which is available online through the NHS Choices website.
