A dental nurse from Lanark is all smiles after being short-listed for Specsavers’ Spectacle Wearer of the Year competition.

Molly Whyte battled tough competition to be named as one of just 10 finalists in Scotland and will now compete against finalists from other regions to win the crown in the 16-24 category. Molly, 19, could be in line for a windfall worth £10,000 if she wins the title.

Molly said that she was ‘over the moon’ to be short-listed and is now looking forward to the next stage of the competition. She’s very proud to wear glasses and she is hoping to inspire other young people and show them that there’s nothing wrong with wearing specs. For every entry into the competition Specsavers is donating £1 to Kidscape, an anti-bullying charity, which supports children and young people who have been affected by bullying.

Molly was invited to pop into the Lanark branch of Specsavers by her patient, the manager of the store, Rubena Kerr, and she was presented with a £150 Specsavers voucher, a bottle of champagne and a certificate. Rubena said that she was happy to see that Molly entered the competition, as she works at the clinic Rubena attends and she has always admired her style and thought that she wears her glasses really well.

The awards ceremony will take place in London on the 10th October with former Girls Aloud singer, Nadine Coyle, set to hand out the prizes.
