A patient support group is urging anyone who has had problems finding a dentist in Kirklees to speak up.

Kirklees Healthwatch is encouraging anybody who has experienced issues with access to local dental services to come forward. Director Rory Deighton believes that NHS England is overlooking a problem with access to local services and is asking patients to share their stories to hopefully make a difference in the future. Mr Deighton said that NHS England has disputed the fact that there are issues in Kirklees despite the fact that the patient group has received numerous complaints in the last few years.

Mr Deighton said that there has been a great deal of discussion about patient access in the last two years and the watchdog believes that there is a significant number of people who have had problems with getting dental treatment. Healthwatch Kirklees has also called for more information to be given out to dental patients regarding the location of services and the availability of NHS places.

According to Mr Deighton, NHS England is overlooking a problem in Leeds and the surrounding area and by responding to a survey run by Public Health England, patients can make a difference. Mr Deighton is not urging as many people as possible to complete the survey and share their opinions, ideas and experiences in the coming four week period.
