Khan the Tiger All Smiles After Tooth Extraction Procedure

One of the most popular residents of Bristol’s Noah’s Ark Zoo Farm is smiling again after receiving treatment for a troublesome cracked canine.

Male tiger Khan, who weighs 32 stone, was treated by a specialist vet after he cracked his 5-inch razor sharp canine tooth.  The procedure was carried out by Dr Peter Kertesz from Zoodent International, which is based in Mayfair. He was assisted by dental nurse Monica Mazurkiewicz.

The procedure took around 45 minutes and Dr Kertesz successful removed the broken tooth and filled the root canals of another tooth.

Keepers asked for the expert assistance of Dr Kertesz after Khan became grumpy and restless and was struggling with his food and the London-based animal dentist said that it was fortunate the keepers were on the ball and able to spot the problem early, as infections can be very serious and even potentially life-threatening to tigers.

Since the procedure, Khan has recovered well and he is now strutting around with his usual prowess and seems a lot happier now that he is free from toothache.

Despite the fact that tigers have the most powerful bite of the big cats, Dr Kertesz showed no fear and went about the procedure with complete composure.
