Japanese Women Spending Hundred On Cosmetic Work To Create Fanged Teeth

Women in Japan are spending hundreds of pounds on cosmetic dental work to create fanged teeth, it has been revealed.

The trend, which is known as Yaeba, is supposedly popular with men because women look childlike when they have small fang-shaped teeth; the procedure is particularly popular in Tokyo and involves adding a small permanent or non-permanent fang to the canine teeth; in most cases the women who have the procedure have perfectly straight teeth but choose to have work done to appear more attractive.

According to Japan Today, the look has become popular as a result of photographs and videos of celebrities showing off fanged teeth. In contrast to this trend, millions of people in other countries around the world are paying to have their teeth straightened.

Doctors charge up to £246 for the procedure, which is becoming increasingly popular all over Japan; the fangs push the molar teeth forward, which creates a childlike, imperfect smile, which is apparently very attractive to men.

Taro Masuoka, a clinic director, said that Yaeba gives girls an “impish cuteness” and is a “sense of beauty unique to the Japanese”; he added that he offers discounts to high school and middle school students.

Masuoka has also formed a girl group, called TYB48, based on the look and admitted that he wanted to capitalise on the popularity of the procedure and encourage more young girls to have treatment to look like their new idols.
