Jailed dentist’s life has been ruined by sexual assault charges

The lawyer representing jailed dentist, Roger Klein, has revealed that the sexual assault charges brought against her client have ‘ruined’ his life.

Anya Lewis, who represented Mr Klein in court last week, said that Mr Klein was facing financial ruin, as well as having to serve a prison sentence and come to terms with a reputation, which lies in tatters. Ms Lewis claims that Mr Klein has significant debts after investing a huge amount of money into his dental practice, Regent Cosmetic Dental Practice.

Last Friday, Mr Klein was jailed for fifteen months and forced to sign to sex offender’s register for ten years; his case has also been referred to the General Dental Council, who will decide if he is fit to practise in the future. Mr Klein was found guilty of sexually assaulting a female patient at her home earlier this year; he denied the charges, saying that the woman had invited him into her room and propositioned him.

As a result of the case, twelve members of staff have been made redundant and many patients have been left without a dentist. A representative from Central and East Cheshire Primary Care Trust said that there were currently no plans to replace the Regent Cosmetic Dental Practice and encouraged patients looking for an NHS dentist to contact the Primary Care Trust.

Klein has started his jail sentence and will find out in due time if he will be allowed to practise in the future.
