She is commonly faced with cavities that have been left and become infected and children who have tripped and damaged their teeth. Dr Chandak also revealed that it is equally important for paediatric dentists to offer support for children and their parents and to act as psychotherapists, as well as dentists.

Dr Ramakrishan Shenoi, vice dean of the VSPM Dental College, said that fainting is very common in dental clinics and added that this may be caused by nerves and anxiety but could also be symptomatic of underlying health problems. Dr Shenoi said that it was essential for all dentists to be ready to deal with emergency situations.
