Dental schools in India have launched educational camps to try and improve standards of oral health among schoolchildren.

Awadh Dental College and NGO Educare have recently launched an oral health programme, which includes running dental camps in schools.

Awadh Dental College organised a camp at the Carmel Junior College last weekend, with around 700 students participating in the event, which was designed to highlight the significance of oral health and encourage children to get involved in oral hygiene. During the event, children were examined by dentists and students and the most common problems emerged as tooth sensitivity, decay, tooth pain, bad breath and gum disease. Of the 700 children who received treatment, several came from the Bal Vihar School for deaf and dumb children.

The director of NGO Educare said that the camp was the first of its kind and added that he hoped the camps would make a difference and educate children about the importance of having healthy teeth and gums. Camps are scheduled to take place on March 29th and during the first week of April at Loyola School, DBMS English School and J H Tarapore English School.
