Dentists in the Middle East have witnessed an increase in the number of patients asking for dental implants.

Dental implantlogy has become a hot topic among dentists and patients in the Middle East and dentists claim that their patients are more up-to-date with dental treatments and advances in the field of dentistry than ever before.

Professor Heiner Weber, chairman of the Department of Prosthodontics at the University of Tuebingen, Germany, said that dental implants require very precise placement and dental expertise and advised patients to ensure that the dentist they choose for their treatment has the relevant qualifications and experience.

Dr Weber was speaking at the 2011 Dentistry Middle East Exhibition and Congress in Abu Dhabi. The exhibition attracts the cream of dental professionals in the Middle East and more than 30 leading experts will attend the event, which will run until the 3rd of November.

Dental implants have been successful all over the world and are regarded by most dentists as the most effective long-term solution for missing teeth. Implants are small titanium screws, which are fixed into pre-drilled sockets in the jawbone. The implants take time to integrate into the bone and then a new restoration is placed and the optimum function of the mouth is restored.
