Increase in teeth whitening ‘due to smoking ban’

Last year’s smoking ban may have led to a rise in the number of people seeking teeth whitening treatments, it has been reported.

Dr David Bloom of Senova Dental Studios told the Watford Observer that ex-smokers are putting the cash they used to use for cigarettes towards getting rid of the effects left by them.

He said that teeth whitening can reduce the stains and yellowness cigarettes have caused to teeth.

Adam Gilbert, an ex-smoker from Radlett, had his teeth whitened and commented: "When I first had it done people noticed but it wasn’t like suddenly dying your hair jet black. People would notice something different but not realise until you told them."

However, Dr Nimesh Patel, of The New Road Dental Practice in Croxley Green, told the newspaper that teeth whitening has always been popular and he has not seen a significant increase since the introduction of the smoking ban.

The British Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry has previously warned people that teeth whitening treatments should only be performed by qualified and regulated dentists.ADNFCR-1374-ID-18434246-ADNFCR
