Hemel Hempstead Dentist Warns Potential Whitening Patients
An unnamed dentist from Hemel Hempstead has sent out a warning to patients wanting the perfect white smile, claiming some clinic are offering tooth whitening treatment outside of the legal requirements.
Fearing reprisals from people carrying out dodgy practices, the dental expert refused to be named. But she urged caution for those seeking out bargain dentistry which offer exclusive teeth whitening deals and pleaded for people to check the credentials before going forward with treatment. The dentist explained that many practices get caught out by treatments which are legal in parts of Europe without checking the UK laws which supersede them. The dentist highlighted the potentially dangerous consequences of cross infection and the spread of hepatitis A, B and HIV.
This follows the recent prosecution of a Hemel Hempstead resident for unlawfully performing tooth whitening treatment. Seven convictions have taken place throughout the UK for carrying out unregulated whitening procedures.
The General Dental Council states that only dental hygienists, dental therapists, and dentists working on a prescription from a dentist can perform teeth whitening procedures. They have a set of guidelines issued for people who want to seek out treatment and advise people to ask practitioners whether they have sufficient training, experience and if they are registered.
