Health bosses back apprenticeship schemes

Sample News Big

Health bosses in the North East of England have pledged their support to a number of apprenticeship schemes.

Last year, NHS North East provided more than 2 million pounds in financial support for apprenticeships in the area and this year, they are planning to back more than 500 schemes.

The schemes are aimed at young people over the age of 16 who are interested in pursuing a career in the health industry; apprenticeships are available in a number of different areas, including dentistry, social care, administration and pharmacology.

The apprenticeship schemes provide a combination of on the job training and academic study. The apprentices develop the skills they need and most end up working for the trust that trained them.

Aidan Mullan, Executive Director of Workforce at the North East’s Strategic Health Authority, said that apprenticeships were a valuable experience both for candidates and the NHS. The schemes allow people from all backgrounds to pursue a career in healthcare by developing the skills they need and completing the relevant training; the schemes also ensure that the NHS employs people who are capable of delivery the best possible standards of patient care.
