Powys Teaching Health Board has confirmed a new NHS dental provider for Llandrindod Wells.

The board has awarded the NHS contract to a new provider following the closure of the town’s mydentist practice. The contract will begin in December 2022.

The health board has urged patients not to contact the practice directly. Patients who were registered with mydentist and attended a dental appointment in the last two years will be contacted in due course to make arrangements. Local residents who don’t have a dentist and have contacted the Powys Dental Helpline will also be able to make appointments. Representatives from the board will be contacting those who need to see a dentist in the coming days and weeks.

There is currently a waiting list for NHS dental appointments in the area and residents are urged to be patient. The board is working through lists to ensure that people who need treatment most can see a dentist quickly. It could be some time before routine appointments are widely available.

Jane Dodds, Liberal Democrat Senedd member for Mid and West Wales, said that she was “delighted” that a contract has been awarded in the town. She added that improving access to NHS dental services has been a priority since she was elected.

Anyone who is looking for a dentist in Powys is advised to contact the Powys Dental Helpline on 01686 252 808. The team handling the calls is under intense pressure and the board has encouraged anyone using the service to treat staff with kindness and respect following reports of verbal abuse.
