Sample News Big

Primary school students in Hartlepool were treated to a visit from a local dental therapist recently.

Joanne Brown, from Elliott McCarthy Dental Care, visited the students at Lynnfield Primary School to take to children about oral hygiene, keeping the teeth healthy and diet.

Joanne ran a fun and interactive educational session with the children in Year Five, using a giant set of teeth to illustrate her talk and inviting children to ask and answer questions. The aim of the session was to engage children and encourage them to learn how to keep their teeth and gums healthy.

She talked to the nine and ten year old’s about how their diet affects oral health and also highlighted the importance of going to the dentist and explained what happens when you see your dentist for a check-up.

Joanne said that the session had gone really well and it was great fun to visit the school and chat with the children about oral health issues. By getting children involved at an early age, teachers and dentists are hoping to promote good oral health and reduce the incidence of tooth decay.

A spokesman for the dental practice, which is located on Wiltshire Way, said that it is important to teach young people the benefits of brushing and added that it was an important part of the practice philosophy to support projects in the community and encourage people to adopt healthy habits.
