Harleston Dentist to Miss Charity Trip Amid Ebola Fears

Sample News Big

A dentist from Harleston is missing out on his charity trip to Africa amid fears of catching Ebola. Nick Stolls was due to travel to Guinea this autumn, but will now stay in the UK.

The Harleston dentist has already volunteered with the charity Mercy Ships, and was looking forward to helping out again this year. However, with the Ebola crisis a real threat to people travelling to, from and around Africa, Nick will now stay at home.

More than 1,000 people have already been killed by the Ebola virus in the Republic of Guinea and this is one of the worst-hit areas.

Mercy Ships rearranged plans to protect volunteers from Ebola and the new destination will be Madagascar. By the time the schedule came through, Nick was unable to reorganise his annual leave and will consequently miss out on this year’s mission.

Nick said that he is disappointed to miss out, but cannot risk contracting Ebola and bringing it back to the UK. He also mentioned that he was pleased to see that Western authorities were taking the infection seriously and supported measures to restrict travel. He worked with a Liberian volunteer on board the ship when it visited the Democratic Republic of Congo last year and has been thinking of him frequently since news of the Ebola outbreak was broadcast.
