A group of dentists were joined by their four-legged friends for a day at the dental practice last week as part of ‘bring your dog to work day’. The scheme was set up by LoveSniffys, a local firm, which produces healthy treats for dogs, with the aim of raising money for a number of animal welfare charities.

The team from Glow Dentistry in Heath Street welcomed their furry friends to the practice for the day, with dentist Dr Jay Prashar and his wife, Irene, accompanied by their dog, Toffee and practice manager, Sarah Livingstone working alongside her pet, Oscar.

Dr Prashar said it was great fun to have the dogs around for the day, especially as they were well-behaved and a big hit with the patients; however, he stressed that it would not be practical on a day to day basis, due to hygiene reasons.

The ‘bring your dog to work day’ scheme was launched by LoveSniffys and gained the support of ITV’s This Morning, as hosts, Eamonn Holmes and Ruth Langford starred alongside their pet pooch, Maggie. The firm is donating money from the campaign to three charities, including Pup Aid, All Dogs Matter and Animals Asia.

Leann Young, founder of LoveSniffys, said that many people find pets a calming influence and their presence at work can help to reduce stress. Dr Prashar echoed this sentiment, saying that occasionally, patients who are very nervous bring their pet to the surgery to help them to feel more relaxed.

Ms Young added that the campaign had enjoyed national success and said that everyone at the firm had been bowled over by the support from businesses. Hopefully the day won’t leave any patients feeling ‘rough’.
