Groupon To Stop Advertising Tooth Whitening Offers From Non-Dentists

Sample News Big

Coupon site, Groupon, is to stop offering tooth whitening offers provided by non-dentists.

The site, which has become incredibly popular over the last two years, has confirmed that it will no longer promote tooth whitening services offered by firms or individuals who are not approved by the General Dental Council.

According to recent legislation, tooth whitening is a dental treatment and should therefore only be provided by qualified dentists who have the relevant training and expertise. The General Dental Council and other dental organisations have been campaigning for a ban on whitening services that are offered by untrained practitioners for a long time. Furthermore, they welcomed a recent court ruling, which banned an unqualified woman from offering tooth whitening treatment.

Dentists will be allowed to advertise through Groupon but the GDC has reminded dentists that they must still exercise “due diligence” when treating patients. It is important to ensure that they carry out the necessary checks to make sure that the patient is a suitable candidate for whitening treatment.
