Good news for dental patients on the Isle of Lewis, as new clinic opening is announced

Sample News Big

There’s good news on the horizon for patients on the Isle of Lewis after it was confirmed that a new clinic is set to open in Stornoway. The news will come as welcome relief from the agony of having to wait for months, even years to register with a local dentist.

Dr Sridhar Kalvakuntla, from NHS Western Isles Dental Practice, has confirmed that he will open a brand new practice on Cromwell Street. He hopes that the clinic will be open to the public by the end of the year. The practice will offer both NHS and private services.

Initially, Dr Kalvakuntla was hoping to have the surgery up and running by October, but he has warned patients that it may take slightly longer than anticipated.

The opening of a new practice will provide a much-needed solution to issues related to access on the island. In February this year, a petition was drawn up to appeal for action in response to the inability to register for NHS dental treatment. Although there is a state of the art dental centre in Stornoway, there is a shortage of dentists, and this means that patients are having to wait longer for treatment and new patients are not able to join the register.
