Good news for dental patients in Shetland, as private practice offers NHS places

Dental patients in Shetland have a reason to smile after a private practice on the island started accepting NHS patients.

Dental Shetland in Lerwick is now offering NHS dental places, as well as private dental services, a move, which has delighted local health bosses. The clinic has confirmed that Dr David Lubbe will continue to treat private patients, while Dr Ian Tinkler will provide NHS care.

Ralph Roberts, chief executive of NHS Shetland, said that the care provided by Dental Shetland will make a huge difference to the provision of public dental services on the island and benefit the wider community enormously.

Dr Tinkler, who was previously based at a practice in St Olaf that closed in 2011, confirmed that he will begin treating NHS patients. The list will give priority to children, former patients and young adults and Dr Tinkler will be working with dental therapist, Kerry Sjoberg, a new addition to the Dental Shetland team.

Anyone who wishes to register with the practice or inquire about NHS or private services available at Dental Shetland is encouraged to contact reception on 01595 695553 or email [email protected].
