GDC Warns Against Discount Deals

Sample News Big

The General Dental Council has issued a warning against discount deals offered by dentists using sites such as Groupon and Living Social.

The GDC has warned dentists that they must consider their responsibility to patients and advised against making claims, which may be misleading to members of the public. The GDC said that dentists must put their patients first and not lose sight of their role as primary carers. Financial interest should not encourage dentists to make claims about treatments or services.

The GDC has the power to stop dentists working if they do not comply with the regulations. If GDC registered professionals offer treatments, they must follow the usual protocol and assess the patient before providing the service.

The GDC is currently reviewing standards of practice and a draft version, which relates to ethical advertising, will be included as part of the review.
