NHS dental services in Northamptonshire have been given a funding boost, after Central Government confirmed a cash injection of £1 million to improve access to NHS care.

The extra funding will allow more than 6,000 people to register with an NHS dental practice close to their home.

The cash boost is part of an initiative to make NHS dental care more accessible in the county. Alison Simpson, a practice manager from Mawsley, said that the funding was great news for patients in Northamptonshire, especially those who have struggled to register with a dentist in the past. She added that the cash injection will improve standards of oral health in the region.

In addition to improving existing services, money will also be used to advertise NHS dental care and inform patients about how they can register with a practice and how they can look after their teeth and gums.

Health Secretary Andrew Lansley said that too many people are still waiting for dental treatment and struggling to register with a local practice.
