Fulham Dentist Offers Advice On Preventing Bad Breath

Sample News Big

Bad breath is very common; most people suffer from unpleasant smelling breath after eating strong foods, such as onions and garlic or drinking tea or coffee, but for some, bad breath is a constant and this can be a symptom of underlying dental problems. To help people ward off bad breath, Fulham dentist, Sarveen Mann, has written a blog.

Sarveen Mann is the owner of The Fulham Dentist and she has started a series of informative dental blogs, which will be published in the Fulham and Hammersmith Chronicle.

According to Mann, a quick test will show you if you have bad breath; simply run some dental floss between your front teeth, move the floss around a bit and remove; then smell the floss and this will tell you if you have bad breath, also known as halitosis.

The most common reason for bad breath is bacteria; when you eat, the bacteria feed on the food deposits in your mouth and this prompts them to release unpleasant smelling gases.

The best way of preventing bad breath is to keep the mouth clean by brushing twice a day, flossing and using mouthwash; regular check-ups and an annual visit to your hygienist will also help to keep bad breath at bay.

Bad breath may not indicative of anything serious, but it is possible that it is symptomatic of an underlying condition, which may get worse if left untreated. Dentists see patients with bad breath all the time, as it is a very common problem and patients are advised not to be embarrassed about seeing their dentist.
