French Dentist Trusted to Create Beautiful Smile for Duchess of Cambridge

Rather than opting for the ultra bright Hollywood style smile, the Duchess of Cambridge reportedly visited a French dentist to enhance her smile in time for her wedding earlier this year.

Dr Didier Filion specialises in a form of treatment known as “harmonious asymmetry”, which is designed to enhance the aesthetic of the smile, while still preserving a natural look.  The treatment process for the Duchess involved making micro-rotations of the teeth to make the smile look more even and balanced, without making them look artificial.

A close friend of Dr Fillion, Bernard Touati, told The Times newspaper that Kate Middleton’s teeth were not perfectly aligned but she wanted to maintain a natural look for her smile and Dr Fillion achieved this by making very small rotations of the teeth. In America, perfectly aligned teeth are very popular but the Duchess did not want to follow this route and was said to be delighted with the results of the treatment.

Dr Fillion criticised the look sported by so many Hollywood stars, including Tom Cruise, saying that they were “too perfect” and instead decided to focus on enhancing the Duchess’ smile by using techniques designed specifically to create a healthy looking natural smile.  Dr Fillion treated the Duchess at his Wimpole Street practice in London prior to the wedding. He also uses 3D imaging software to create images of the finished result for patients to view and approve and offers the opportunity for clients to point out problem areas they would like improved.

Megan Hatfield Says :

I really don’t see what’s so pioneering about this treatment. The only way to get perfect symmetry is with veneers, even the best orthodontic treatment will have some small imperfections due to the natural variations in tooth shape and position, which will therefore look more natural, which is why so many people are turning to orthodontics rather than veneers to improve crooked or misaligned teeth. There is nothing magic to what Dr Fillion has done, though he is an excellent orthodontist.

The type of treatment Kate is rumoured to have had, lingual braces, is fixed braces fitted behind the teeth rather than in front. Whilst this is very specialist there are many orthodontists all over the UK who are carrying out this type of treatment (including myself in Wetherby) who can give comparable results to Kate’s smile. Check out the British Lingual Orthodontic Society (BLOS).

As for Bernard Touati, does he think he doesn’t have to maintain client confidentiality because Kate wasn’t his client?
