A free medical and dental clinic will be held in Vancouver this weekend.

Churches and non-profit organisations are joining forces to host Compassion Vancouver, a free event for people who do not have dental and medical insurance. The event will take place on Saturday.

During the day a range of medical and dental services will be available free of charge; these will include basic medical examinations, chiropractic examinations, dental cleaning treatments, cervical screening, mammograms, emergency dental treatment, eye examinations, as well as free haircuts, pet care and activities for kids.

All the services are provided on a first come, first served basis and people are urged to get there early to avoid disappointment.

The event is being held following the success of previous Compassion Connect events; over the last six years, Portland organisations have joined together to host events for people without insurance and last year, churches and local charities in Vancouver hosted the first Compassion Vancouver event.

Last year, 130 people received dental care, 88 people received medical examinations and 70 people received eye examinations. This year organisers are expecting a larger turnout.
