Local residents in Missouri were invited to attend a free dental clinic run by Dentistry from the Heart. The clinic was hosted by four dentists and a team of volunteers and hundreds of patients benefitted from free treatment. The clinic was help to encourage people to look after their teeth and gums and provide treatment for people who would otherwise struggle to afford the care they need.

Most people who visited the clinic had not been to see a dentist for a long time and were suffering from dental health problems; most did not have dental insurance and did not have the extra money available for dental treatment. The clinic provided treatments including fillings, extractions and cleaning treatments.

Dentistry from the Heart is a national charity, which helps to provide free dental clinics for those who cannot afford dental treatment. Each year the charity helps thousands of people and hundreds of dentists and volunteers offer their time and service free of charge.

The charity is keen to promote oral health after a survey revealed that millions of Americans have oral health problems; the Healthy People 2010 Survey revealed that a worrying proportion of the US population has dental health issues and most people are unaware of the potential health risks associated with poor oral health. Millions of people say they put off going to the dentist because they cannot afford treatment and they do not have insurance policies to cover the cost of care; consequently, their condition becomes worse and they end up with severe problems.
