A free dental clinic attracted large crowds in Maui,Hawaii.

More than 500 lined up to receive free dental and health care at the first day of the free health event, which was held at the army’s Tropic Care Maui County Clinic.

The clinic was open to all, including those without dental insurance and all treatments were provided free of charge by military doctors, dentists and nurses. The clinic also offered free eye tests and vision checks.

Mayor Alan Arakawa, said that he had submitted the application for the clinic to visit Maui three years ago and he was relieved to see the clinic arrive earlier this week. For many, the cost of health and dental care is unaffordable and this means that a large number of people are going without the treatment they need.

Free services will also be available on Lanai; events will take place at Lanai High and Elementary school and a clinic will also open on Molokaion the 11th June.

There are currently 3 clinics on Maui, which are located  at Iao Intermediate School, Helene Hall and Saint Theresa Catholic Church; a fourth clinic is due to open at Lahaina Civic Centre on the 11th June.
