Free dental care for children without dental insurance

In such economic times it can be difficult to make available to essential money to service the dental health needs of your children. And that is why free dental care days like that offered the Saturday gone by Hillside Clinic in Ukiah are of such importance for children without dental insurance.

‘We’re normally here to care for the underserved, but there are always some people who fall through the cracks, and this is a way to get them here’, says Doug Lewis, supervising dentist at Hillside Clinic.

Staff from the practice volunteered for what would normally be a day off and it was found that cavities were the main issue of the day amongst the young patrons.

Due to the demand of such events when they come about there is no prior advertising. ‘We would get too many people,’ said dental hygienist Jessica Vierra.

Doug Lewis went on to say: ‘You can get more kids in for screenings, or you can focus on the few kids who have trouble. The staff wanted to get kids in who needed it most.’

This is one of many events over the years that have been brought into action to try and help the growing demand for free dental care.
