Former High Jump Champion Turns Author To Help Children Stop Sucking Their Thumbs

A former high jump champion has written a book to try and help children give up sucking their thumbs.

Tracey McNair, a former international high jumper, is also a trained dental hygienist and an orofacial mycologist; she decided to write the book, which is entitled ‘Suck Finger Pickney’, to educate children and parents about the potential implications of thumb-sucking and encourage children to kick the habit.

Tracey, who now lives in Jamaica, said that there is hardly any literature out there on the subject of thumb-sucking and this book helps to provide information for children and parents.

Thumb-sucking may be considered by many as a harmless childhood habit, but it can have long-lasting implications for children; in extreme cases, thumb-sucking can cause problems with speech and posture, along with affecting the development of the facial structures and the teeth.

Since Tracey has extremely enjoyed the process of writing the book that she has plans to create two more stories, which feature Theo the Thumb and Tony the Tongue.
