Fluoride Debate continues in Cape Breton

Sample News Big

Representatives from both sides of the fluoride debate are preparing to have their voices heard at a regional council meeting in Cape Breton today.

Health experts and professionals will be joined by scientists and anti-fluoride campaigners to make presentations in front of an audience; both sides of the argument will be presented, as the debate on the future of water fluoridation in the area rages on.

Anti-fluoride campaigner and activist, Marlene Kane has been pushing for the end of water fluoridation for a number of years; Kane believes that adding fluoride to municipal water supplies is both unhealthy and unethical. According to Kane, people should have the right to choose whether or not they are exposed to fluoride; she also believes that fluoridation contributes to health risks.

Marlene Kane will be joined by Dr James Back, a biophysicist who was instrumental in the decision to stop water fluoridation in the city of Calgary; Beck claims that there is no proof that fluoridated water supplies influence oral health in a positive way.

Presenting the other side of the argument, paediatrician, Dr Andrew Lynk will be joined by four other health professionals, who will stress the importance of fluoride for good oral health; health professionals support the use of fluoride because it makes teeth stronger and helps to reduce the rate of decay, which is particularly beneficial for children in poorer areas who do not have access to regular dental treatment.

The meeting will begin at 6pm.

Fluoride causes many health problems, lowered IQ, thyroid damage, brittle bones, arthritis, and much more (See fluoridealert.org). The most devastating effect of fluoridation is the vast increase in bone cancer in boys by the time they reach their 20’s.

A 2006 Harvard University study by Dr. Elise Bassin, DDS, shows a link between water fluoridation and a SIXFOLD increase in osteosarcoma, a very deadly bone cancer, in young boys.

This confirms another earlier study in 1992 by the New Jersey Department of Health study showing osteosarcoma rates higher among young males in fluoridated vs. unfluoridated regions of New Jersey.
How many deaths should we tolerate in children just to dispose of an industrial toxic waste fluoride?
