Fizzy vitamin drinks can harm teeth

Researchers have discovered that fizzy dissolvable vitamins can harm your teeth.

The team from the University of Helsinki tested eight varieties of effervescent vitamins and discovered that they all can corrode teeth.

They also discovered that the vitamins draw minerals from teeth, weaken them and leave the more porous and more susceptible to decay.

After soaking teeth in the effervescent vitamins for 100 hours and all of them caused teeth to lose minerals.

Dr Mervyn Druian of the British Dental Association said that obviously teeth aren’t exposed to fizzy vitamins for 100 hours at a time but added that regular use could cause damage.

The tooth erosion occurs because citric acid, which is found in these vitamins as well as cola and lemonade, is very harmful for teeth.

Dentists are now advising fizzy vitamin users to drink them through a straw or to brush their teeth, rinse their mouth with water, or chew sugar free gum after consumption.
