Fenland dentist submits plans to turn former charity shop into a new practice

A Fenland dentist has submitted proposals to create a brand new practice in March. Dr Amiras Choksi is hoping to turn a former charity shop on Broad Street into a new surgery.

The premises, which were previously home to a store named Community Chest, have been vacant for years, and Dr Choksi is hoping to breathe new life into the building and provide a valuable service for local residents.

Plans for the unit have been drawn up by Morton and Hall. If they are approved, the aim is to create a new surgery set over three floors. The exterior of the building would be modernised to provide an attractive shop frontage, but the renovations will not impact any listed structures.

Dr Choksi currently runs March Dental Practice, which is located on Darthill Road. Although the surgery has been expanded, the waiting list is growing and it is not possible to extend the current site any further. The Broad Street site, the proposal suggests, would provide an opportunity for “natural expansion in a town centre location.”

There is currently a shortage of dental places in the region, and Dr Choksi believes that the new premises would be beneficial for local patients but also for the community as a whole, as the renovation would bring the “prominent building back into use.”
