Federal Government Confirms Investment in Indigenous Oral Health

Sample News Big

The Federal Government has revealed plans to inject $420,000 into oral health services for Indigenous people in central Australia.

Indigenous Health Minister Warren Snowdon revealed that $276,000 will be spent on replacing a mobile dental unit, which has been driving around rural dirt tracks for 17 years.

The government has also revealed plans to spend thousands of dollars on mobile dental equipment, which will serve around 3,000 people in the APY Lands in the northern section of South Australia.

Research studies and surveys have consistently shown that standards of oral health are very poor amongst Aboriginal communities and last year the national health statistics body revealed that five out of six children living in remote areas of the Northern Territory, suffered from tooth decay or had missing teeth.

The investment in oral health services will hopefully help to improve access to dental services for people living in remote areas.
