Falkirk patients urged to contact their practice if they need urgent advice

NHS bosses in the Forth Valley have urged patients who need urgent advice to contact their local practices as normal.

Practice staff will be on hand to provide advice over the phone and to offer online services. Following a telephone assessment, dentists will decide upon the best course of action, which may include recommending self-help therapies at home, taking over the counter pain relief, taking prescription medication or visiting an urgent care dental centre. Prescriptions can be done online and over the phone, and patients will be advised to visit an emergency facility if they require immediate treatment.

According to NHS Forth Valley, there are several centres providing urgent services, and patients should be able to get an appointment quickly. Director of dentistry at the trust, Jennifer Rodgers, said that arrangements have been made to ensure that patients are able to access urgent assistance if they need treatment while their local dental practice is closed.

Anyone who is not registered with a dentist that needs immediate treatment is encouraged to call 01324 614 670 during normal working hours. Advice can also be provided by NHS24 111, but it is important to avoid calling this number unless you need information about urgent dental problems. For general information and minor symptoms, patients are advised to contact their normal dentist.
