Epsom Dental Practice To Host Free Oral Cancer Screening

A dental practice in Epsom is hosting free oral cancer screening as part of Mouth Cancer Action Month, which kicks off on the 1st November.

Epsom Dental Centre on Waterloo Road will provide free oral cancer checks on Friday 1st November to support the British Dental Health Foundation’s national campaign, which aims to raise awareness of mouth cancer, a disease, which kills one person every five hours in the UK.

The screening day is being sponsored by Epsom David Lloyd Club. Owner of Epson Dental Centre, Chig Amin, said that the team is hoping that the free screening day will get people talking about oral cancer and encourage them to be vigilant and see their dentist regularly. One of the main problems with oral cancer is that patients do not recognise the symptoms and this means that the disease is diagnosed at an advanced stage. Raising awareness of the causes and symptoms will hopefully ensure that cases are diagnosed earlier when the chance of survival is much higher.

The practice is part of the Mouth Cancer Screening Accreditation Scheme and the team is trained to identify warning signs of mouth cancer.

Neil Dowthwaite, manager of the David Lloyd Club, said that early detection saves lives and the club is “delighted” to be involved with such an important event.

Mouth Cancer Action Month will run throughout November and practices all over the country will be participating in events to raise awareness of oral cancer.
