‘Early treatment is vital’ with cracked teeth

Treating a cracked tooth early can significantly assist in treatment of the problem, it has been reported.

San Antonio dentist Dr Brian Hale explained that a cracked tooth can be a result of temperature extremes, hard sweets, grinding or clenching teeth, trauma or brittleness from root-canal treatment.

"If you have a cracked tooth, you already know it’s no laughing matter," he said. "A cracked tooth lets itself be known to the sufferer by its pain."

Dr Hale recommended that sufferers of a cracked tooth contact their dentist as soon as possible as early treatment can mean "less aggressive" measures are needed.

He stated that cracked teeth can be corrected by bonding, which can relieve the symptoms or the placement of a crown.

However, in more extreme cases a root-canal must be performed, he continued, adding that this is not necessary in 80 per cent of cases.

Many people have a fear of attending the dentist, reports the Olympian, stating that overcoming this phobia can have a significantly positive effect on patient’s lives.ADNFCR-1374-ID-18454702-ADNFCR
