Drink Tea To Keep Dental Issues At Bay

Sample News Big

Many of us enjoy a cup of tea before bed, but now researchers have discovered that the benefits of drinking a cuppa extend further than providing a comforting beverage. Scientists have found that drinking tea can help to keep gum disease and cavities at bay.

Researchers found that drinking at least three cups of tea per day helps to fight bacteria, therefore reducing the risk of gum disease and decay.

Dr Carrie Ruxton, lead researcher of the study, said that black tea contains ingredients that help to fight off two key strains of bacteria. She went on to say that the bacterium contributes to dental disease, Lactobacillus and Streptococcus mutans. Dr Ruxton finally stated that that the most effective results were found in those who drank 3 or 4 cups of black tea per day.

Scientists also found that black tea was equally effective when sugar was added to it and green tea displayed similar benefits.

Dr Ruxton explained that tea helped to combat decay and gum disease because it reduces the amount of harmful bacteria in the mouth, which then reduces the quantity of plaque acids released when eating.

The review of previous related studies into the benefits of tea also shows that green tea can aid in weight loss. It does this by facilitating greater expenditure of energy and increasing the speed of fat burning.

The findings of the study would be welcomed by British people who are renowned for their tradition of drinking tea.
