Dorset Dentist Backs British Dental Health Foundation’s Mouth Cancer Campaign

A dentist from Dorset is backing the British Dental Health Foundation’s Mouth Cancer Action Month campaign.

The Poundbury Dental Practice is offering free oral cancer checks for people who are not currently registered with a dentist throughout November as part of the campaign, which runs under the slogan, ‘if in doubt, get checked out’.

Tim Warren, practice manager, said that it was important to support the campaign and educate as many people as possible about the dangers of mouth cancer. Early detection is so important, as the disease can spread quickly and the chances of survival are up to 90 per cent higher when treatment is administered early. Mr Warren said that dentists have an important role to play in the detection of oral cancer because they tend to see their patients on a regular basis, rather than just when they are ill, like doctors.

The practice also ran a free screening programme last year and the team is looking forward to getting behind this year’s campaign. The checks will be carried out by Dr Hilary Warren Simmons.

Anyone who is interested in booking an appointment is advised to get in touch with Poundbury Dental Practice on 01305 268 068.
