Dorchester Dental Practice To Offer Free Oral Cancer Screening In November

Sample News Big

A Dorchester dental practice is endorsing and supporting the arrival of Mouth Cancer Awareness Month by offering free oral cancer screenings next month.

Poundbury Dental Practice will be hosting free screening sessions throughout November to raise awareness of oral cancer and encourage local people to get checked out.

Screening is open to all and is not restricted to registered patients; however, booking is recommended.

Dentists at the practice are eager to raise the profile of mouth cancer, so that more people are aware of the causes and symptoms. At the moment, many people are unaware of the warning signs and this is contributing to late diagnosis. Mouth Cancer Awareness Month aims to ensure that cases are diagnosed early when treatment is much more likely to be successful.

Research shows that more than 2,000 people die from mouth cancer every year in the UK and the number of cases is increasing year on year; despite the figures and facts, awareness remains low.

Symptoms to be wary of include ulcers and sores, which take longer than 2 weeks to heal, swelling in the mouth or throat, red or white patches and a persistent sore throat. Anyone who has these symptoms is advised to see their doctor or dentist.

To find out more about screening and book an appointment, patients are advised to contact the surgery directly.
