Director of ‘The Teeth Whitening Company’ Prosecuted for Unlawful Dentistry

The director of a teeth whitening service in Cambridge has been sentenced for conducting illegal treatments.

Director of The Teeth Whitening Company, Julie Marino, admitted to practicing dentistry unlawfully at a court hearing at Cambridge Magistrates Court on September 3rd, 2015.

Teeth whitening can only lawfully be performed by registered dentists or dental hygienists, clinical dental technicians and dental therapists working to a dentist’s prescription.

Marino is unregistered and carried out the work at a premises in Orchard Close, Cambridge. She was prosecuted by the General Dental Council, and owes them £2,000 in costs.

She also owes a victim surcharge of £100 to the court, and has received a £1,000 fine.

The General Dental Council urges patients to make sure their own dental professional is registered by performing a search on their website.

It is reported that Marino’s company has a number of franchises across Britain.
