Dentists Warn Against Grazing Over the Easter Weekend

Sample News Big

Easter is a time of year when most of us indulge in a few more treats than usual. This Easter, dental experts are urging patients to try and get through their chocolate stash as quickly as possible, rather than prolonging the agony for the teeth.

Oral health experts from TePe have advised chocoholics to avoid grazing throughout the day to prevent damage to the teeth. When you eat sugary foods, such as chocolate, the bacteria in your mouth feed and this causes them to released acids. These acids attack he enamel, causing it to soften temporarily. It takes a couple of hours for the enamel to harden and during this time, the teeth are weak and vulnerable. If you are munching on chocolate throughout the day, this means that your teeth will never get a chance to recover.

Dentists are also urging people to treat themselves to chocolate eggs immediately after a main meal and to avoid brushing for at least an hour after eating. When you’ve eaten lots of indulgent treats, it’s especially important to brush your teeth properly. Devote at least two minutes to cleaning your teeth and make sure you cover each surface of every tooth. After brushing, remove any food debris or bacteria from the gaps between your teeth with dental floss.
