Dentists support BDA campaign against red tape

Local Dental Committees are supporting the British Dental Association’s campaign against red tape.

The BDA is trying to encourage the government to cut back the red tape and allow dentists to focus on their job, rather than realms of paperwork and hours of administration. Last Friday, more than sixty officers from Local Dental Committees pledged their support to the campaign at the 2010 LDC Official’s Day in London.

Many dentists have been angered by CQC (Care Quality Commission) registration, which involves a great deal of administration. Dr Mick Armstrong, chair of the Local Dental Committees, said that CQC registration threatened general dental practice because it would lead to dentists being burdened by red tape. Administration and paperwork take time away from dentists and this time could be used to focus on patient care. Dr Armstrong also claims that CQC registration would take money away from general practice.

The BDA are campaigning against CQC registration and encouraging dentists across England to back the protest by sending a postcard designed by the BDA to their local MP. The postcard asks MPs to send a letter to the Health Minister, Andrew Lansley, to urge him to simplify the CQC registration system and allow dentists to get on with their jobs.
