Dentists Receive Funding to Provide Low-cost Care For America

Sample News Big

Dental health is becoming a serious concern in America. Many older Americans no longer have dental insurance due to the loss of benefits when they retire and their tight income post-retirement that does not allow for dental care privileges. Similarly, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), nearly 32% of children between the ages of 6 and 19 who are from low-income families are left to suffer from untreated cavities.

The number of Americans without sufficient access to dental care is a concern for the government. Many of these individuals, including children right through to the elderly are either uninsured or do not have the money to pay for dental treatment upfront.

In a bid to bridge the gap between dental care and low-income Americans, the government are piling millions of dollars into dental schools and clinics across America to specifically provide low-cost dental treatment to these underprivileged citizens.

As part of a nationwide plan to make dental care more accessible to the masses, government agencies have given huge grants to such as Lorain County Health and Dentistry in Ohio, who according to reports, has received more than $6 million to provide discounted treatment to the thousands of people in desperate need of dental care.

Alongside two other dental clinics that recently received funding totalling $8 million, Lorain County Health and Dentistry will now be able to provide low-cost care for the less wealthy citizens of Ohio. The three clinics together will now be able to treat 22,500 new patients each year at a reduced cost; giving the citizens of Ohio something to smile about.

In Florida, the government has issued five grants to faculty members at the University of Florida totalling almost $7 million and this will fund treatment for low-income families in Florida who are in desperate need of dental care.

These grants will also go towards providing hands-on and advanced training for dental students at the University of Florida and towards buying new equipment; all for the purpose of providing a low-cost dental care service.

This is great news in these poor economic times for the thousands of people who have lost their jobs and, with it, their dental insurance who can now seek discounted treatment across America. For less fortunate families and the elderly also, the government is stepping up to help to provide dental services that, in an ideal world, should not be subject to circumstance.
