Dentists Launch Charity Football Kit Campaign

Dentists in Brooklands have launched a new charity appeal to provide football kits for children from a school in Africa.

The team from the Maple Road practice are now collecting football kits to donate to children from the Michael James School in Mombasa after hearing that they are desperate to own their very own football kit. The school was set up by Kath and Mike Blears, from Altrincham, after they visited Mombasa in 2007 and were shocked by the level of poverty.

Kath said that they had managed to level some of the grounds surrounding the school and the children have been able to play football, which they have absolutely loved. Many of them are big football fans and to have their own kit would be a dream.

The school only has funding for 60 children and this means that usually only one child per family has a place at school; having a kit would enable the children to share with their siblings and encourage the children to get engaged in sport, which has many benefits for their physical health and their social and mental wellbeing.

Anyone who has a spare kit lying around or wishes to buy a kit to donate to the appeal is advised to pop into the practice, which is located on Maple Road in Brooklands. The kits will be presented to the children by Kath and Mike.
