Dentists From Europe Set To Take Language Tests

Sample News Big

In the near future, new laws will be put in place for dentists from Europe to have to take an English language test before treating patients in the UK. Ministers have told the General Dental Council that they will soon have the power to give checks if there are any concerns raised.

The Department of Health announced earlier this month that they would be imposing new language tests for doctors. The profession has been fighting for this law change for over four years. The dental profession is planning to follow suit.

It may take a while longer to get clear clarification on how this new law would work for other healthcare professionals, such as midwifes, nurses and other healthcare workers. The first and main focus has been to get the law on doctors changed so that they have to be able to speak English to the tests standard.

Over the years there have been some very serious healthcare errors, where European doctors have given incorrect medication, or too much of a medication to patients leading to fatal results. Currently dentists need to have a performer number where a certain level of language capability is already required.
