Dentist To The Stars Claims Dark Chocolate Can Protect Tooth Enamel

Sample News Big

A dentist from Beverly Hills claims that a bitter powder named theobromine, found in dark chocolate, can have a hardening effect on the enamel which helps to protect the surface of the teeth from the effects of staining. Dr Katz claims the same is not true for milk chocolate however as its high sugar content causes bacteria and bad breath.

He claims dark chocolate, cheese, green tea and strawberries all have benefits for whiter teeth. And for best results they should be eaten early on in the day after plaque has built up over night.

Strawberries can be mashed into a paste and baking soda added for a natural whitening solution. But Dr Katz warns that this is not true of all berries as some are known to stain the teeth. It is the malic acid present in strawberries that helps to work its magic.

Green tea contains tannins and polyphenols which prevent bacteria and plaque sticking to the surface of the tooth. This helps to prevent bad breath.
