Dentist hosts free dental event in Blue Springs

A dentist from Blue Springs hosted a free dental event to help people without dental insurance.

Dr Alan Foster opened his clinic to provide people who would otherwise struggle to afford dental care with treatment they desperately needed; many of the patients who visited Foster Dental Care had not seen a dentist for several years and had extensive dental health problems.

More than 200 people queued for treatment on Saturday, showing the extent of the problem, which is present right across America. Millions of people do not have dental insurance and are not on a high enough wage to pay for treatment for their families; consequently, they have to rely on the help of volunteer dentists and charities like Dentistry from the Heart.

Dr Foster teamed up with Dentistry from the Heart to help give back to the local community and provide much-needed treatment for around one hundred patients. Dr Foster and the team worked tirelessly for eight hours, treating three times as many patients as they would do on a normal day. Most patients required tooth extractions as a result of extensive decay.

Local dental students helped out during the event and some local businesses helped out with the cost of dental instruments and supplies. The event was a great success and Dr Foster is planning to host another free dental event in the near future.
