Dentist charged with fraud

A dentist from the Erie area has been charged with fraud, following a police investigation.

Kevin Sambuchino, owner of the Lake Erie Dental practice, has been accused of making fraudulent claims to insurance companies. It is believed that Sambuchino was claiming for high quality crowns and restorations made from precious metals and expensive ceramic materials instead of the lower value restorations he was supplying to his patients. The police have not provided any details of the amount of money Sambuchino is alleged to have fraudulently claimed.

Investigators examined hundreds of insurance claims made to four separate providers over a period of time and have subsequently charged Sambuchino with 16 counts of fraud; the crime has been classified as third degree felony, the highest possible grading for a crime of this kind.

Sambuchino’s lawyer has rubbished the charges, stating that the dentist has acted legally and had refunded the patients involved. The dentist himself made no comment.
