Dental students launch new pop-up shop in Lanarkshire

Dental students from New College Lanarkshire have launched an exciting new pop-up shop. The store, which is located on Kildonan Street at the Coatbridge Campus, will be open on the first Monday of every month.

The aim of the enterprise is to enable students, staff and local residents to benefit from high-quality dental products at affordable prices. As well as selling products at their stall, dental students from the college will also be on hand to provide dental advice and tips related to oral hygiene and nutrition.

Profits raised from sales will be donated to the Oral Health Foundation’s Save a Smile campaign, which is designed to help people across the UK and the rest of the world enjoy better standards of dental health. The stall, which will operate under the brand name 32 Happy Teeth, will be staffed by level 5 dental nursing students.

A member of the student-led enterprise group said that project was an exciting opportunity to raise awareness of the importance of good oral health and the link between dental health and general wellbeing. Oral health should be a priority for everyone, and this is why the team has decided to hand out leaflets and offer advice, as well as selling discounted dental products. The range has been selected carefully, with one student pushing for lip balm that contains SPF because one of their relatives suffered from mouth cancer.

Before the pop-up launched at the end of 2019, the team undertook market research and met with Scott Lawrie, a representative from Colgate.
